Foods that stabilize blood sugar levels

Insulin resistance is a condition where your body’s cells become less responsive to the hormone insulin. Insulin helps cells absorb glucose (sugar) from the bloodstream for energy. When cells don’t respond well to insulin, glucose builds up in the blood instead of being used by the cells. As per experts, obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and poor dietary habits are among the lifestyle and genetic variables that contribute to it and one can reduce the risks associated with it by paying attention to healthy diet and lifestyle practices. In a recent video on Instagram, nutritionist Rajat Jain talked about foods one must have on an empty stomach to stabilise blood sugar levels. His caption reads, "Insulin resistance starts showing up first thing in the morning. What you eat on an empty stomach decides your blood sugar game for the whole day. Eat smart and stay balanced. Watch this reel to fix your mornings.” Scroll down to read the details of each food item and their benefits.

Soaked almonds

According to Rajat, “3-5 almonds in 1/4 cup water: rich in healthy fats and magnesium, helps prevent sugar spikes.” Soaked almonds are packed with magnesium, fiber, and healthy fats that help slow down the release of glucose into the bloodstream. This can prevent sudden blood sugar spikes, making them an excellent addition for people with diabetes or anyone looking to manage their blood sugar naturally.

3/6

Amla juice

He says, “1 medium amla with 1/4 cup water: strengthens pancreatic function and helps stabilise blood sugar naturally.” Rich in antioxidants and chromium, it helps improve insulin sensitivity and supports healthy glucose metabolism. Drinking amla juice regularly can help keep your blood sugar levels in check and reduce sugar spikes after meals. Regular consumption can help strengthen hair roots, reduce hair fall, and prevent premature greying.

4/6

Cinnamon water

He adds, “1 small twig with 1 cup water: regulates blood sugar, improves insulin function and fights inflammation.” Cinnamon water contains powerful compounds like cinnamaldehyde that help improve insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar levels. Drinking it regularly can slow the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream and reduce sugar spikes after meals, making it a simple yet effective way to support your body’s natural glucose management.

5/6

Sprouted moong

He also says, “1/2 cup green moong sprouted with chopped vegetables of choice: strengthens pancreatic function and helps stabilise blood sugar naturally.” It is also rich in fiber, protein, and antioxidants that slow down the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream. Its low glycemic index helps prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar levels, making it a great food choice for those managing diabetes or looking to balance blood sugar naturally.

6/6

Fenugreek tea

“1 cup hot water with 1 tsp fenugreek seeds: boosts insulin sensitivity and controls blood sugar spikes,” Rajat concludes. Also, fenugreek tea is rich in soluble fiber and compounds like 4-hydroxyisoleucine, which can improve insulin sensitivity and slow down carbohydrate digestion. This helps control blood sugar levels and lower spikes after meals, making it a natural and easy drink for managing blood sugar.
