Homemade baby food for 6-12 month old toddlers

When it comes to feeding a toddler, all new mothers have a common concern of getting all the right nutrients and vitamins for their baby. Babies can shift from their mother’s milk after 6 months and can start having external food items like cerelac, fruit puree and vegetable puree. Packaged cerelac is widely available in the market that helps babies in gaining weight and also fulfils their daily nutritional needs. If you do not wish to depend entirely on store-bought cerelac and other baby foods, here are five super easy ways to make preservative-free baby food at home. These baby foods can be consumed by babies between the age of 6-12 months. (image credits- istock)

Homemade Cerelac

  1. Wash 1 cup of rice properly and drain all the water.
  2. Spread the washed rice on a clean kitchen towel and let it dry off completely.
  3. Now add 4 tbsp moong dal, 4 tbsp masoor dal, 2 tbsp urad dal and 7 almonds to a bowl.
  4. Wash everything well and drain excess water.
  5. Spread everything on a kitchen towel and let everything dry off completely.
  6. Add rice to a pan along with 4 tbsp broken wheat. Dry roast everything for a few minutes.
  7. Now add the dried dals to a pan and dry roast them until fragrant.
  8. Now mix all the roasted ingredients together and blend them in a grinder to form a fine powder.
  9. To make cerelac, cook 1 tbsp powder with 1 cup of water for 8-10 minutes or until slightly thick.

Banana Puree

  2. Add the pieces to a blender along with ½ cup water.

  4. You can also replace water with milk to make the puree more filling for the baby.

  2. Add the carrot cubes to a pan along with 1/2 cup water.
  3. Cook for 10-12 minutes and let it cool down a bit.
  4. Transfer the carrot along with water to a blender and blend to form a smooth paste.
  5. Carrot puree is now ready to be served.

Strawberry Puree

  1. Take 4 whole strawberries and remove the head.
  2. Chop roughly and add the pieces into a steamer.
  3. Steam for just 5 minutes to soften the berries.
  4. Add the berries to a blender along with ¼ cup water.
  5. Blend to form a smooth puree and serve.

  2. Chop the pumpkin into small pieces. You should have roughly about 4-5 cubes.
