Gudi Padwa: A Maharashtrian festival

The auspicious festival of Gudi Padwa will be celebrated on Saturday, April 2, this year. The joyous occasion is observed on the first day of the month of Chaitra, the first month in the Hindu calendar. Gudi Padwa is celebrated primarily in Maharashtra.

Gudi Padwa is also referred to as Samwatsara by the Konkani community, and is known as Ugadi in parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Puran Poli

Puran poli is a sweet flatbread which is stuffed with a sweet lentil filling made from skinned split chana dal and jaggery.

Shrikhand

A delicious and simple dessert made with thick yoghurt flavoured with sugar, saffron and cardamom. One can have seasonal specials like amrakhand (mango shrikhand) as well.

Basundi

Basundi is a thickened, sweetened milk flavoured with cardamoms, spices and nuts.

Karanji

A crisp, flaky, fried pastry stuffed with desiccated coconut and dry fruits. Karanji is also one of the sweet snacks that is a part of the Diwali faral.

Sabudana kheer is a sweet pudding made with tapioca pearls or sabudana, milk and sugar.
