Mushrooms

They are definitely one of the healthiest sources of vitamin D when it comes to vegetables. But, did you know there are so many wild mushrooms growing outside, which might look edible but can be dangerous for your body? Whenever you go out in nature, make sure that the one you are about to cook is an edible one. Some of the dangerous varieties of mushrooms are Death Cap, Webcaps, Autumn Skullcaps and Deadly Capperling. They all look like edible mushrooms but are not in reality.

3/6

Tomatoes

Ever imagine why we cut the top ring/crown of the tomato? Well, it's because there is a toxin called ‘tomatine’ that resides in this part which can cause intense stomach pain and cramps. Not just that, but the leaves of tomatoes also contain a poison called Glycoalkaloid, which can lead to anxiety when consumed. So, now you know this, make sure that you cut this part of the tomato whenever cooking any food with it.

4/6

Almonds

They are by far one of the best sources of protein & vitamin E for vegetarians, which makes them an ideal snack for many. However, there are two types of almonds that you should be aware of. While one is sweet which we normally consume, and the other one is bitter which contains high levels of cyanide that can be lethal when ingested. They are also known as wild almonds.

5/6

Cherries

We love cherries, but those stones in the middle of them can make them a little tedious to eat. Never simply swallow the stones, though! They contain a substance called hydrogen cyanide and we’re not meant to ingest that. The same goes for the stones and seeds of fruits such as apricots, apples, prunes and pears.

6/6

Potatoes

This vegetable belongs to the nightshade family that contains a poison called solanine. Thus, one should be extra careful when eating potatoes. If you ever spot a green or sprouted potato, throw it away!
