Foods you should never eat before flying

Planning to travel to your favourite destination on a long and satisfying vacation is a good way to de-stress after a hectic schedule. While the excitement of traveling is there, you might want to relax before boarding your flight. The best way to do that is to indulge in something tasty at the airport. Also, who knows what will be served on your flight. We often like to eat snacks before a long journey but it is important to recognize foods that should be avoided before a flight. No one tells you this, but some foods should be avoided before boarding a flight because they can cause you discomfort as well as to people surrounding you. Here is a list of foods that you should not eat if you are in for a long airplane journey:

2/11

Fried Food

It is a delicious appetizer and we can never say NO to it. However, it's best to avoid these fried foods in general, before you take a flight. Fried foods can cause heartburn. They contain oil as they are deep-fried, and they tend to be high in sodium, which can lead to fluid retention and cause bloating in your body.

3/11

Coffee

A lot of us like to grab a takeaway cup before a flight, but it's best to avoid doing so. Airplanes are already drying to your body, so combined with the dehydrating properties in caffeine, you can experience a headache or nausea.

4/11

Alcohol

If flights make you nervous, you might want to calm down your nerves by indulging at the airport bar but alcohol can have a dehydrating effect. Along with the airplane also leaving you dehydrated, you might not feel very good.

5/11

Beans

It is best to avoid anything that causes excess gas to build up in your stomach. Beans cause gas which can prove to be discomfort for you as well as the person sitting next to you. Besides the embarrassment of being gaseous, you will have to spend the flight feeling bloated.

6/11

Apples

It's just fruit and may seem like a healthy choice of food before a flight but all the fibre in them makes them difficult to digest which results in a long hour of discomfort, gas and bloating.

7/11

Red meat

If you have planned to eat your favourite mutton burger before taking the flight, you might want to think again. Usually, many people have difficulty digesting red meat, so you will be experiencing discomfort throughout the flight.

8/11

Broccoli

Veggies and salads are healthy but not when you are about to take a flight. Cruciferous veggies such as broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower can cause gas, so maybe you should miss a healthy salad this time.

9/11

Soda

Carbonated drinks are anyway not good for you. You should avoid them before flying and even when the drinks cart comes, it's best to stick with water. Carbonated beverages like soda can cause gas and heartburn.

10/11

Spicy food

Spicy food can result in stomach discomfort and bladder irritation. If you want your fight to be comfortable, try eating something bland before boarding. It can also cause bad breath.

11/11

Gum

Chewing gum might stop your ears from paining but while you chew a piece of gum, you let excess air into your body and it results in gas. Also, sugar and artificial sweeteners in sugar-free foods can cause flatulence.
