Which is your favourite chickpea dish?

Chickpeas, commonly known as kabuli chana or chole, are a rich source of protein ad other essential nutrients. These are best enjoyed post soaking and boiling and are enjoyed across the world. From dishes like hummus to falafel, they all use chickpeas a key ingredient and Taste Atlas recently celebrated this legume by releasing the list of 90 Best Rated Dishes with Chickpeas. For the “90 Best Rated Dishes with Chickpeas” list until February 22, 2026, 955,813 ratings were recorded, of which 622,697 were recognized by the system as legitimate. Interestingly, in the list of 90, 10 are desi Indian dishes that are no less than flavour bomb. Read to find out.

Chole Bhature


It is a combinaiton of two dishes-chole and bhature. Chole is made with boiled chickpeas and is commonly accompanied by onions, pickles, mint chutney, and chilled lassi. Chole bhature can be found at most street carts in North India.

Papri Chaat


It is an Indian street food made with deep-fried wafers (papri), tamarind and mint chutney, black grams, potatoes, and dahi. The ingredients are layered, and the dish is usually sprinkled with sev—fried chickpea noodles—and chaat masala—a spice mix which combines cumin, coriander, dried mango and ginger, as well as chili, asafoetida, and black pepper, the website reads.

Vada Pav


This is Mumbai's favourite sandwich and is made with vada, or spicy mashed potatoes that are deep-fried in chickpea batter, and pav, or white bread rolls.

Chana Masala


It is a specialty of North and is made with chickpeas, simmered in a combination of spices and herbs, often served with rice or Indian flatbreads such as roti or naan, then garnished with a dollop of yogurt or sour cream.

These are small deep-fried round balls made from besan (gram flour) and are often usedfor garnish or are used ti make raita.

Dhokla


It is a dish of Gujarat and is made with besan, curd, sooji, tumeric, salt and a tempering made with oil, mustard seeds, sugar, curry leaves and green chilli.

Ganthiya


These are deep-fried snack made from gram flour. Unlike most other Indian snacks, ganthiya is not crunchy, but soft and puffy. It can be found throughout Gujarat at numerous street stalls, but the snack is especially popular during Diwali.

Katori Chaat


This dish consists of small or medium-sized baskets that are made from grated fried potatoes. Once shaped and prepared, the baskets are filled with various chaat (Indian snacks) ingredients such as curd, potatoes, chickpeas, or chutneys.

Pindi Chole

This is a traditional dish originating from the Punjab region. It is made with chickpeas (kabuli chana), split bengal gram (chana dal), cardamom, cinnamon, cumin, ginger, chili peppers, tea leaves, baking soda, turmeric, onions, garlic, tomatoes, garam masala spices, and coriander.
