Eyes are on the vibrant Arsenal's thobe!

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani delivered an iconic festive fashion moment where the internet just cannot stop talking about it. Bringing cultural tradition and football fandom together, he stepped out in an Arsenal-inspired thobe, which looked bold and unexpected. Celebrating his personal style with community, identity, and pop culture, all at once, he soon started trending online

Class of 2026!

A sea of thobes in white, light blue, and black, and yet, Mayor Zohran Mamdani stood out from the pack, donning his thobe (a jersey and t-shirt combo) in Arsenal's deep blue and red. A lifelong supporter of Arsenal, he has shown his love for the football club time and again, and for the Eid celebrations this year, she chose this striking attire, which instantly created online buzz.

But what is a thobe?

A thobe is a traditional long, ankle-length, loose-fitting robe that is worn in the Arab world and in South Asian cultures. It features long sleeves with collarless detailing, made from linen, cotton, or a synthetic material, and mainly comes in plain shades like black, white, and earthy tones. Men wear this on religious occasions, special functions, and family gatherings.

Celebrating personal style time and again

Zohran Mamdani’s fashion sense has steadily become the centre of attention over the years, where politicians are mostly seen in polished and predictable avatars; he embraces style to be personal and culturally rooted, which has found a relatable angle with his fans. Whether he is wearing a traditional South Asian silhouette or a sleek navy blue suit, this subtle nod to his football culture with New York’s identity has now blurred the lines between youth culture, politics, and self-expression.
