From Rodeo Drive to Bandra’s red carpet
Some celebrity looks just stay with us, and Julia Roberts' ‘Pretty Woman’ looks are one of them. From her revenge shopping ensemble to the vintage "big mistake" dress, she owned the 90s Rodeo Drive looks in Los Angeles and made Hollywood dressing popular across the globe. Even after 35 years since its release, the craze for her closet remains, and Bollywood’s Bebo, aka Kareena Kapoor Khan, proves just why.
A stylish nod to ‘Pretty Woman'
For an event in Mumbai, Kareena stepped out in a classic red scarlet gown which exuded a calculated cinematic moment and instantly drew comparisons to Julia Roberts’ red opera gown in ‘Pretty Woman'. But Kareena’s look was not a cosplay, but it was a stunning couture function, which came with context. From the silhouette touch to the classic sweetheart neckline cut, the reference felt deliberate and did not look accidental at all.

Making the Bandra crowd go gaga
Kareena restored a 1987 Vicky Tiel ruched gown from his archives, which is an inspirational version of the popular red opera gown carved for Julia Roberts in ‘Pretty Woman’. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, who is known for sourcing rare archival pieces from across the globe in fashion, once again made Kareena look like the star of the moment, proving this dynamic duo is unstoppable.

Kareena rewriting the ‘Pretty Woman’ gown
Bebo’s full-length bodycon gown featured a strapless sweetheart neckline, a structured bodice, pleated detailing around the bust, and a flowy chiffon skirt around the hemline. The intricate pleated elements with a thigh-high slit edge created a dramatic red-carpet moment, where Kareena managed to keep things minimal, allowing the bold gown to take centre stage. And, ya.. what a lovely ode it was the Pretty Woman!(Image Credits: Instagram)
Accessorising it up
Kareena wore a ruby-and-diamond choker with a matching large diamond ring and completed the look with a pair of subtle yet elegant-looking pumps. For her hair and makeup, she opted for a dewy base, feathered eyebrows, soft-pink smoky eyes, sharp contoured cheeks, classic winged eyeliner, and bold signature deep-red lips. She wore her hair straight with a middle parting and left it all loose for a sleek touch.

Why is the opera dress such an icon?
Designed by Marilyn Vance, this stunning piece was exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in 2014, and even after three decades since its debut, the piece is still adored across the globe. Paired with white opera-style gloves and a heart-shaped diamond choker. The fitted bodice with subtle pleats and a classic plunging neckline was designed to be "diametrically opposite" to Julia’s character in the film, where she wore revealing outfits at the beginning of the film and suddenly entered her old-money era.
