Deepika Padukone in Sabyasachi: 5 times the actress and designer proved they are a match made in heaven

Deepika Padukone has been in her “mother era” of late, but that doesn’t mean it has to be devoid of fashion! In fact, if anything, her latest appearance is a reemergence – and it’s been “iconic,” to say the least. With husband (and actor) Ranveer Singh by her side and their daughter, Dua Padukone Singh, in her arms, Deepika painted the town red with her latest Sabyasachi look!

While this isn’t the first time Deepika is making heads turn in a Sabyasachi outfit and redefining “iconic,” the recent look is special for the actress-producer for so many other reasons – starting with this being the first time the Padukone-Singh family brought their daughter Dua before the camera and posed together as a family. This photoshoot is essentially the social media debut for little Dua, much like her debutante ball!

For the first public appearance of Dua, with her parents, Deepika chose her go-to designer for special occasions – Sabyasachi. While the mother-daughter duo twined and stunned in red, Ranveer looked regal in an ivory kurta set from the designer’s “The New India” collection. The family sported Sabyasachi jewels as well for the occasion.

Much like her wedding and reception looks, and her “coming back to the spotlight” appearance earlier this year, this too is a milestone for Deepika in Sabyasachi. For a designer and actress duo who time and again prove that they’re a match made in fashion’s heaven, Deepika and Sabyasachi have come a long way, weaving their own sartorial symphony.

Let’s take a look at their most iconic fashion moments and partnership evolution over the years.

2/6

The wedding extravaganza

Deepika’s wedding festivities with Ranveer Singh (in 2018) were inextricably linked to Sabyasachi’s craftsmanship. For her Lake Como wedding, she donned a decadent red Sabyasachi lehenga, complete with an embroidered veil bearing the Devnagri mantra “Sada Saubhagyavati Bhava” (“may you always remain fortunate”). That outfit alone cemented the designer-actress pairing in Indian bridal folklore: it showcased Deepika’s poise and Sabyasachi’s mastery of traditional motifs elevated for a modern bride.

3/6

Post-wedding glam

The wedding wasn’t the sole Sabyasachi affair for Deepika. For the Mumbai reception, the actress-producer went floral with Sabyasachi’s “Dil-Guldasta” lehenga. Their visit to the Tirupati Balaji Temple saw her in a red-gold sari from the designer, and at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, she chose a regal maroon kurta-dhoti set by him. These looks, aced by Deepika, reinforced the idea that Sabyasachi isn’t just for glam events, but for personal and familial occasions too.

4/6

Flower power

It’s not just the reception look for Deepika that exuded flower power – she embraced it during her film promotion of Chhapaak as well. Deepika selected a limited-edition six-yard Sabyasachi sari hand-painted by the designer himself for the Sabyasachi Art Foundation’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection. The sari featured jewel and sorbet hues, delicate cord piping, sequinned splatters, and a fringed gold border. This selection not only marked a stylistic shift from bridal grandeur to expressive, but it also stood for the idea of couture-meets-artwear.

5/6

Red carpet royalty

Global exposure came in spades when Deepika wore Sabyasachi at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022. One look: a sequinned‐stripe sari from his “Aakash-Tara” collection, block-printed and hand-embroidered by his artisans, paired with historic jewelry pieces from his Bengal Royale collection. This moment was significant: an Indian star on an international platform, wearing Indian luxury couture that was unmistakably rooted in heritage — with Deepika as the global emissary.

Back to work: Sabyasachi’s 25th anniversary walk

Earlier this year (January 2025), Deepika made her first runway walk post-motherhood for Sabyasachi’s 25th anniversary show. She opened the show in a sleek monochromatic white look – a tailored pant-and-tank set with an oversized trench coat, layered jewelry, black leather gloves, vintage-style headband, and bold-rimmed glasses. Hands clapped, jaws dropped, while several spectators – present in person and across social media – declared the look as Rekha-core redefined, likening her to the eternal glamour of Rekha with a contemporary twist.

This moment was significant because it featured Deepika stepping back into the fashion-and-public sphere after motherhood, and choosing Sabyasachi for that statement return. The look balanced power dressing, minimalism, and old-world flair, showcasing a mature, confident aesthetic.
