Royal fashion moments with hidden messages

Members of the royal family are known for their poise and graceful demeanour. While they may have a lot to say and express, they choose to maintain their composure and do not indulge in feeding controversies. However, the royals may keep silent about a lot of things, but they sure know how to convey their message to the public in the most secretive ways possible. One of them is through their sense of style and fashion. From Queen’s Elizabeth’s iconic wedding dress to Princess Diana’s cleavage bags, besides making bold style statements, the royals have expressed a lot through their fashion.

That being said, here are 8 times when royal outfits carried and conveyed a hidden message.

Queen Elizabeth II wedding dress

Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding took place in the aftermath of World War II, where people were still grieving and recovering from the loss and adversities of the war. Therefore, besides being one of the most beautiful royal wedding gowns in history, it was also a symbol of national renewal and hope for the future. Considering the economic state of the country, the Queen is said to have bought the dress with the ration coupons she had collected.

The Queen’s handbags

Surely, the Queen needs no purse or handbag to carry her basic necessities. It is what her royal helpers are there for. However, according to many royal experts, the Queen uses her handbags to signal to her helpers or handlers. That being said, if the Queen shifts her handbags from its usual spot on her left arm to the right, then that means she is going to end the conversation. If she places it on the floor, it means she wants someone to help her out of the conversation. Similarly, if she places it in on the table during a meal, it is a cue from the Queen and means that event must end in 5 minutes.

Princess Diana’s Revenge Dress

The famous ‘Revenge Dress’ is one of the most iconic symbols of royal revenge. Besides being the boldest of its kind amongst royal fashion, it also marked the end of Princess Diana’s relationship with Prince Charles, as she wore it on the same night when Prince Charles confessed about his infidelity on national TV.

Her Cleavage bags

Being one of the most photographed women on earth, Princess Diana had to make sure that her modesty and image was well protected from press photographers and paparazzi. Therefore, she came up with innovative ways to do that. One of them being the cleavage bags. Although, they were just accessories to compliment her outfits, she sure put them to good use.

6/9

Meghan Markle’s Wedding Veil

Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry as a marker of many special occasions. However, the wedding gown was something that people couldn’t take their eyes off. But one thing that surely stood out was the veil of the dress. A tweet from Kensington Palace claimed that Meghan had asked that all 53 countries of the Commonwealth be part of her journey throughout the ceremony. Therefore, her designer Waight Keller incorporated flora of each Commonwealth country on the veil.

Kate Middleton’s love for colourful outfits

In light of the current pandemic, not only the royals but the entire world has remained in a state of lockdown. However, they have not refrained from their duties and continue to work in isolation and on virtual platforms. Reportedly, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton has worn different bright colours during video calls throughout 2020, which some believe is her way of showing support for the U.K.'s National Health Service. As per an Instagram account of Cambridge Mums, "Kate has literally worn a rainbow”, which according to them is definitely a hidden message.

Meghan Markle’s Victoria Bekham Dress

The ‘Revenge Dress’ was one of its kind, but when it comes to making statements and conveying hidden messages through fashion, Meghan Markle also gave it a shot. After having stepped back for her royal duties and shifting to Canada, the royal couple made their first appearance at the Endeavour Fund Awards in London. Meghan was seen in a cerulean Victoria Bekham dress with a figure-hugging fit, which almost seemed like a new beginning in the royal’s life.

The Queen wearing the Burmese ruby tiara while meeting US President Donald Trump

Well, when it comes to the British Royal Family, they are prohibited from talking politics at all. But during her meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, the Queen of England is seen wearing her Burmese ruby tiara given to her by the people of Burma. According to the crown’s jeweller, the 96 Burmese rubies in the tiara created for the Queen by the House of Garrard was "originally given to the queen as a wedding gift from the people of Burma, intended as a symbol of protection against illness and evil." Now, why she wore it for the occasion is left for the public to interpret.
