Solar Eclipse 2025 live update: What are the different types of solar eclipses, as per science?
Depending on how the Sun, Moon, and Earth align, the eclipses can be of different types-- total, annular, hybrid, or partial.
A total eclipse happens when the Sun is completely covered by the Moon, turning day into night for a few minutes. In a partial eclipse, only part of the Sun is obscured, while an annular eclipse creates a “ring of fire” effect as the Moon covers the center of the Sun but leaves its edges visible. A hybrid eclipse is a rare combination of total and annular phases.
