Happy Eid-ul-Fitr 2026: Wishes, Messages, Quotes, Images, Photos, Greetings, WhatsApp Messages and Facebook Status
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the celebratory time for millions of Muslims across the world, which falls after the end of Ramadan, or Ramzan, the holy month of fasting and prayers. Eid-ul-Fitr, or Eid-al-Fitr, or Meethi Eid as it is referred to, is declared after the moon is sighted. The day itself means, 'festival of breaking the fast'.
Most communities across the world will be celebrating the auspicious day on 20 March 2026.
Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations begin with the sighting of the crescent moon, which is first sighted in Saudi Arabia, which is home to Mecca, the holiest site for Muslims.
While the day is marked by offering prayers, visiting friends and families and feasting, Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations also hold a significant note, historically. Celebrated in the Islamic month of Shawwal, it is believed that during the holy month, Prophet Muhammad received the first sighting of the Holy Quran, who also originated the celebration of the pious day. It is also said that the earliest Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations were held in 624 CE, after the victory in the battle of Jang-e-Badar.
The day also holds a significant value since all practising Islam breaks their month-long fasting, focussed on discipline, foregoing ills and religious devotions.
By refraining from negative actions throughout the month, devotees pay their respects to Allah on Eid.

How is the day celebrated?
Eid-ul-Fitr is usually celebrated in a grand manner, and considered to be the biggest Eid celebrations in a year. The celebrations usually begin an evening before, when the moon is sighted and continue well into the next day. Much like other festivals, feasting, prayers, exchanging cordial greetings and visiting one another. Traditional delicacies like Sevaiyyan and Sheer Korma are prepared on the day, while with the changing customs, many more dishes have become popular too. The day is also associated with charity as pious devotees distribute gifts, alms, food and supplies to the poor and needy. Friends and families, wishing each other 'Eid Mubarak', exchange gifts. The festival is the most joyous occasion for the little ones, who get 'Eidi', which is usually money, gifts or sweets from elders on the day as a token of love.
That being said, while the pandemic has continued to dampen the celebrations worldwide, this year too, most people will be celebrating Eid at home and advised to have small gatherings only. Nonetheless, as the day brings near and dear ones together, one can always choose to send heartfelt wishes, greetings, prayers and messages to mark the celebrations in a grand manner, virtually.
You can also choose to pick these beautiful, enriching wishes and messages and share these on your social media platforms if you are celebrating Eid far away from home.
