5 habits to incorporate in your daily routine if you want to slow skin ageing and look young

Slow skin ageing with these habits

Everyone knows, ageing is going to happen. No cream, serum, or “miracle hack” can stop it completely. But what you can do is slow things down a bit, especially when it comes to your skin.

Those fine lines, dull patches, uneven tone - they don’t just show up randomly one day. They build up over time, usually because of small, everyday habits we ignore.

The upside? Small good habits work the same way too. Do the right things consistently, and your skin will show it. You don’t need a complicated routine or super expensive products. Just a bit of consistency goes a long way.

Here are five habits that are actually worth sticking to.

2/7

Don’t skip sunscreen (seriously, don’t)

If there’s one thing that truly makes a difference, it’s sunscreen. Sounds basic, but most people still don’t use it properly.

Sun exposure is one of the biggest reasons skin ages faster. It breaks down collagen - the stuff that keeps your skin firm - and leads to wrinkles, tanning, and pigmentation.

And no, being indoors doesn’t mean you’re safe. Sunlight comes through windows, and all those little exposures add up.

You don’t need anything fancy. Just pick a sunscreen with SPF 30 or more, put it on in the morning, and reapply if you’re out for a while. It might feel like an extra step now, but in a few years, you’ll be glad you didn’t skip it.

3/7

Keep your skin hydrated (and yes, drink your water)

When your skin is dry, it shows. It starts looking tired, a bit rough, and those fine lines become more noticeable.

So first things first - drink enough water. It’s simple, but most of us don’t do it properly. No, water alone won’t magically fix your skin, but not drinking enough definitely makes things worse.

Then comes moisturiser. You don’t need a luxury brand - just something that suits your skin and keeps it from drying out.

Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin are great because they help your skin hold onto moisture. That’s what gives your skin that soft, fresh look.

4/7

Get proper sleep (your skin can tell when you don’t)

“Beauty sleep” might sound like a cliché, but it’s actually real.

While you’re sleeping, your body is busy repairing itself - your skin included. New cells form, damage gets fixed, and your skin sort of resets.

If you’re constantly sleeping late or not getting enough rest, it shows. Think dull skin, dark circles, and a tired look that no concealer can fully hide.

Try to get around 7–8 hours of sleep. It doesn’t have to be perfect every night, but a regular sleep routine helps more than you think. Even small changes here can make your face look noticeably fresher.

5/7

Go easy on your skin (more isn’t always better)

It’s easy to get carried away with skincare - new products, trending ingredients, trying everything at once.

But honestly? That can backfire.

Using too many products, over-exfoliating, or constantly switching routines can mess up your skin barrier. When that happens, your skin gets sensitive, dry, and more prone to breakouts—and that can speed up ageing instead of slowing it down.

Keep things simple:

A gentle cleanser

A basic moisturiser

Sunscreen

That’s your core routine.

You can add extras like vitamin C or retinol if needed, but don’t pile everything on at once. And please—no harsh scrubbing. Your skin doesn’t need that kind of aggression.

6/7

Eat better (your skin reflects what you eat)

You can apply the best products in the world, but if your diet is all over the place, your skin will show it.

What you eat plays a huge role in how your skin looks and feels.

Try adding more:

Fresh fruits (berries, oranges, papaya)

Vegetables (spinach, carrots, broccoli)

Nuts and seeds

Healthy fats like walnuts or flaxseeds

These are packed with nutrients that help your skin stay healthy and deal with damage.

At the same time, try not to overdo sugar and junk food. Too much sugar can damage collagen over time, which leads to faster ageing.

You don’t have to eat perfectly - just be a bit more mindful on most days.

7/7

So, what’s the takeaway?

There’s no magic shortcut here - and that’s actually a good thing.

Taking care of your skin doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s really about doing a few basic things consistently.

Wear your sunscreen. Drink water. Sleep properly. Don’t overdo skincare. Eat better.

That’s it.

Stick with these habits, and over time, you’ll notice your skin looking healthier, fresher, and more balanced. Not “perfect” - just better. And honestly, that’s more than enough.
