Nagaland court sentences man to life for killing his younger brother
KOHIMA: A Kohima court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his brother. The Court of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Mezivolu T Therieh, on Friday convicted Lezo Seletsu (49) under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for the killing of his 33-year-old brother on 20 August 2023, according to the Office of the Public Prosecutor.Prosecution details stated that the accused shot the deceased with a firearm, causing fatal injuries. Following the incident, Seletsu fled but was later arrested, and the weapon used was recovered based on his directions. The court noted that the brothers had been in an argument, but evidence showed the deceased had begun walking away when Seletsu went inside his house, retrieved a gun, and shot him from behind.Given the seriousness of the crime and lack of significant mitigating factors, the court sentenced Seletsu to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.
