NEW DELHI: At least four people were hospitalised after a gas leak at a factory in Gujarat’s Valsad district on Friday morning.
The incident took place in Sarigam town, which is an Industrial Notified Area. According to a Gujarat Pollution Control Board official, gas leaked from a reactor at Cynax Metachem, causing eye irritation among people present at the factory.
Four persons, including the company owner Vinod Patel, were taken to hospital after being affected by the leak, the official said.
Authorities quickly cordoned off the area around the factory to prevent further exposure. The gas leak was brought under control using sand and sodium bicarbonate, officials added.
The exact nature of the gas released during the manufacturing process is still not known. Police have started an investigation to find out the cause of the incident.
