UP man held smuggling 2.60 kg opium in Ambala

Ambala: The crime investigation agency (CIA)-I of Ambala police arrested an Uttar Pradesh (UP) based man, after recovering 2.60 kg opium from his possession in Mahesh Nagar police station area of the district on Tuesday.

The arrested accused was identified as Raj Thakur of Nasirpur Nathu village in Budaun district of UP. Raj was produced before the district court in Ambala on Wednesday, which granted his 4-day police remand to CIA-I.

The district police have booked accused Raj under Section 18 of the NDPS Act at Mahesh Nagar police station in Ambala Cantonment area.

The Ambala police said that CIA-I team received the tip-off that accused Raj was smuggling opium and he would be going towards Mohra village of the district from the side of Khuda Dukheri T-Point on Jagadhri-Ambala road.

“Acting on the tip-off, a checking post was laid at the T-Point, where suspects were checked, when 2.60 kg opium was recovered from Raj Thakur. The recovered quantity is commercial”, said Ambala police.
