Ratan Tata, the son of Naval and Soonoo Tata, was born on December 28, 1937. Along with his younger sibling, Jimmy, Ratan was raised by their grandmother, Navajbai R Tata. As chairman, Tata focused on expanding the group’s international footprint. In 2000, under his leadership, Tata Group acquired London-based Tetley Tea for $431.3 million, followed by the purchase of South Korea’s Daewoo Motors’ truck division in 2004 for $102 million.
