His body was sent for an autopsy."
CRPF Cobra commandos and local police have been conducting a joint operation in the area to flush out Karbi People's Liberation Tigers militants since Wednesday night. They fired when they reportedly saw somebody running Rakhe.
Agarwala said the operation was conducted after they received information about a group of Tiger militants hiding in the area for the past few days. "It was about 5.30 am. Through the darkness, security forces saw a man running close to security forces. The CRPF personnel fired from their automatic weapons thinking he was a militant," he said. An inquiry has been ordered to find the guilty.
A member of Rakhe's family claimed the boy was killed by security forces from close range. "Rakhe was going to the pond when CRPF personnel fired at him indiscriminately from a close range," he alleged.
Locals protested against security forces in the area on Thursday and demanded punishment for the guilty. They also asked compensation for Rakhe's family.
