SP, BSP need to forget past differences: Mayawati
LUCKNOW: BSP chief Mayawati, who is celebrating her 63rd birthday on Tuesday, has appealed to workers of both BSP and SP to set aside their differences and work together for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Mayawati said that this would be the best birthday gift they could give her.
Mayawati and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav announced their alliance for the general elections on January 12. Saying that the alliance was giving sleepless nights to BJP, Mayawati also appealed to party workers in other states where she has entered into an alliance to work together to defeat BJP.
“UP decides which party forms government and who is the PM. Workers of both BP and SP should ensure a historic win for our candidates and that will be their birthday present to me,” she said.
Mayawati spokes extensively about farmers’ issues during her birthday address, saying that both Congress and BJP had ignored their needs. “Fingers are already being pointed at the newly formed Congress governments of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhatisgarh for their half-hearted attempts at
Attacking BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mayawati said that they had already started their publicity campaign for the elections. “Modi is addressing rallies across the country and making tall promises which they will never be able to keep. BJP’s failure to fulfill its poll promises has become an election issue,” she said.
The former UP CM is scheduled to travel to Delhi on Tuesday afternoon where she will celebrate her birthday with her family. Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav called on her residence to wish her. He gave her a bouquet and shawl.
Party workers celebrated her birthday at Gandhi Bhavan in Lucknow where they cut a 63 kg cake to mark her 63rd birthday.
