Solar inverters bring mobiles back to life

GUWAHATI: For the past week or so Bhaktardova village in Barpeta district has not had any power supply as it had been thrown off the grid entirely.
“With no power supply, people in the area had not been able to charge their phones. They could not stay in touch with anyone outside the village or check on their loved ones. More importantly, they would not be able to make distress calls,” Bhaktardova resident Rahul Amin told TOI.The youth in the area then decided to help out.They got hold of a solar-powered inverter and started offering mobile charging services for a small fee. When solar power was not enough to keep things going, they switched to a power generator.
