KANPUR: Violence returned to thetrouble-torn Aligarh Muslim University when over half a dozen people wereinjured in a clash between two faculty members and their supporters onMonday.
The condition of one of those injured is stated to becritical. A car was also set ablaze by a group of students supporting one of theteachers involved in the incident. Aligarh's Civil Lines' police has receivedcomplaints from both the groups.
According to information reachinghere, the incident is being seen as a fallout of a recent tiff between twoteachers ��� Tanzeem Fatima and Ishrat Hussain ��� of the lawdepartment.
Three days ago, the two teachers had an altercation butlater called a truce following intervention by senior-most faculty member,Professor Salim Akhtar. On Monday, Tanzeem Fatima, also the warden of SarojiniNaidu Girls' Hostel, came to the campus accompanied by her family and a fewothers.
The seven people accompanying her reportedly assaultedIshrat, who was sitting in the faculty lawn. The incident enraged a hugegathering of students there, who grabbed Tanzeem's cohorts and thrashed themblack and blue. Later, the students set ablaze the car in which Tanzeem and heracquaintances had come to the campus. Reports suggest that Tanzeem���sbrother suffered head injuries and is stated to be critical.
