Shoo mosquitoes with the mobile!
BANGALORE: The buzz of your cellphone can now buzz off the mosquito.
And this isnt an Internet joke. The mobile phone, which has moved miles away from just being a communication tool, is throwing open fascinating applications which one never thought was possible.
The mosquito repellent software, which can be installed into the phone, is one such application.

This free software can easily be downloaded from the Internet by way of the Bluetooth facility on your phone and can be activated when those blood-sucking needles buzz around your ears at night.
"I live in Koramangala, where mosquitoes have assumed legendary status. So when I heard about the software, I downloaded it from my PC gleefully. Interestingly, it doesnt even use too much of battery power," says Pradeep B, an online executive.
When the software is activated the cellphone can produce just that bit of sound, inaudible to the human ear, loud enough to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Sure it can be as useful while watching a good movie on DVD, if you please.

And its exactly these kinds of applications that mobile subscribers are seeking these days. Another case in point is a software which makes the caller believe that you are in a traffic jam. Besides your voice, the caller can also hear the purring of engines all around, giving an impression that you are staring at fast moving traffic while you could be at home with your feet up.
"The rapidly growing Indian customer base is constantly seeking newer applications. Worldwide, there are about 4,800 applications that are being used on our phones. People are even willing pay more for downloading some applications," says Simon Garth, vice presidentmarketing, Symbian, a software licensing company for mobile systems.
While some applications can re-charge the your phone instantly, some can brighten up your room by just glowing and acting as a torch. Adds Mahesh Kumar Jain, managing director of Jataayu Software, "What Internet did for the world, such softwares will do for the mobile phone space."
