'Secular Yunus will ensure no rift in communities': Sharad Pawar on Bangladesh interim government

Maharashtra political leader Sharad Pawar on Monday praised, Muhammad Yunus, the new head of Bangladesh's interim government who is known for his secular views. Pawar appreciated Yunus for his commitment to maintaining peace among different communities.
He said, "Bangladesh interim govt head Muhammad Yunus is secular and he will ensure there is no rift among different communities."
On August 11, the interim government in Bangladesh, established after the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, expressed serious concern over recent attacks on Hindus and other religious minorities.
They promised to work closely with community representatives to address and resolve these violent incidents. This was the first official statement from the interim government since its formation on August 8.
Hindus, who make up the largest minority group in the predominantly Muslim country, have historically supported Hasina's Awami League Party.
Since Hasina unexpectedly resigned and left the country on August 7, reports of violence against Hindus, including attacks on homes, temples, and businesses, have increased. At least 205 attacks have been reported across 52 districts since her departure.
Hindu leaders in Bangladesh are now calling on the interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, to restore communal harmony and ensure their safety, as many are living in fear and staying up at night to protect their homes and places of worship.
