NEW DELHI: The Rizwanur death case accused and Kolkata businessman Ashok Todi, who is allegedly absconding after being slapped with an arrest warrant from the trial court, got a breather on Monday as the Supreme Court asked the agency not to arrest him till November 17.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices P Sathasivam and J M Panchal did not pass any written order, but orally directed CBI not to arrest the businessman till November 17, when it would hear Todis petition challenging the CBI chargesheet.
CBI counsel Amit Tiwari pointed out that the businessman has absconded since a Kolkata court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant and despite pendency of his plea there for recalling of the NBW order.
