PM Modi inaugurates India's first Regional Rapid Transit System

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor at Sahibabad RapidX Station in Uttar Pradesh.

The priority section inaugurated will connect Sahibabad to Duhai Depot with stations at Ghaziabad, Guldhar and Duhai on the way. The foundation stone for the corridor was laid on 8th March 2019.

A total of eight RRTS corridors have been identified to be developed in NCR (National Capital Region) with three of these corridors designated for prioritized implementation in Phase I.

PM inaugurated the RRTS trains which were renamed to 'Namo Bharat' from the previous name 'RapidX' given by NCRTC in April.

PM also formally inaugurated east-west corridor, Baiyappanahalli to Krishnarajapura and Kengeri to Challaghatta legs on the Bangalore Metro Purple Line through a video conference.

The inauguration has increased the operational length of the Bengaluru Metro or the 'Namma Metro' to 74 km with 66 stations and daily ridership to over 7.5 lakh making it the second largest metro network in the country.

Prime Minister also presided over a public programme in Sahibabad where he addressed the public gathering to mark the launch of RRTS in the country.

PM Modi travelled on the Namo Bharat train with children and the all-women crew in a moment PM said was "of immense pride as we journey towards a developed and prosperous India".

"Delhi-Meerut 80 Km stretch is just the beginning. Namo Bharat system will be created in many parts of the country and it will also create employment." PM Modi said at the inaugration.
