In a major diplomatic breakthrough, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India and Norway are entering a “golden age” of bilateral ties, highlighted by Oslo’s massive USD 100 billion investment commitment across India’s business, technology, and green energy sectors.
During the high-profile state visit, PM Modi was conferred Norway’s highest civilian honour — the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. The award, one of the country’s most prestigious recognitions, marks the 32nd international honour received by Modi during his tenure as Prime Minister.
Addressing a joint press briefing with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo, Modi said the world is passing through a period of deep global uncertainty and stressed that dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful negotiations remain essential for resolving ongoing geopolitical conflicts.
"I have landed in Oslo, Norway. I am grateful for the warm welcome from Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre at the airport. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in over 40 years. I am confident that the visit will strengthen the friendship between India and Norway. I will meet Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja, and hold talks with Prime Minister Støre. Tomorrow, on the 19th, the third India-Nordic Summit will be held in Oslo. It will be a good opportunity to meet my Nordic counterparts," he said in a post on X.
