The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of 40 farm unions, on Friday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement to repeal the three farm laws. It also said that the SKM will take note of all developments and will hold its meeting soon and announce further decisions. "The agitation of farmers is not just against the repeal of the three black laws, but also for a statutory guarantee to remunerative prices for all agricultural produce and for all farmers. This important demand of farmers is still pending," it said.

After PM Narendra Modi announced the repealing of three farm laws, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday congratulated the farmers and said that farmers' 'Gandhian' protest has shown its real strength, terming the decision "a victory of democracy over injustice". Baghel tweeted " I congratulate the farmers for forcing the government to take back the three black farm laws. This is not only the victory of the farmers, but the victory of democracy against injustice."

"For repeal, the power of Parliament is the same as enacting a law under the Constitution," explained former Union Law Secretary P K Malhotra. "There is no other way," said former Lok Sabha Secretary General PDTAcharya. Responding to a query, Acharya said the government can repeal the three laws through a single repealing bill. The three agri laws have not been implemented, but the fact remains that they are laws passed by Parliament which have received assent of the President, said Malhotra, noting that they can be repealed by Parliament alone.

"These provide much-needed reforms that will help farmers get a better price by cutting out middlemen and improving marketing efficiencies. The protests arise from false accusations that the new laws mean abolition of minimum support prices (MSP) and procurement by central and state governments. The new laws give farmers freedom to sell their produce anywhere in India" - (SA Aiyar)

"The power of people is always greater than the people in power," Telangana Minister and TRS Working President KT Rama Rao said on Friday reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on repealing the three farm laws. Telangana PCC president Revanth Reddy said in a statement complementing the peasant community for their incessant stir against the new legislations.

"I welcome PM Narendra Modi's decision to repeal the three farm laws. My salute to all the farmers who put up democratic resistance against the laws. Debate and discussion is key in a parliamentary set up," tweeted the former Prime Minister.
