Here is a look at the key points from his address.
- We are facing the second wave of Covid-19 now. I understand the pain you are going through and express my sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones due to Covid-19.
- The challenge before is big but we have to overcome it with our resolve, courage and preparation.
- The demand for oxygen has increased in many parts of the country. The Centre, state government, private sector are trying to make oxygen available to all those who are in need of it. Many steps are being taken in this direction.
- Work is on to increase the number of beds in hospitals. In some cities, large Covid-19 dedicated hospitals are being built.
- The country's pharmaceutical sector has already pumped up production of medicines. Compared to January-February this year, the production is already high and is further being increased. We're lucky to have such a strong pharma sector.
- This is a team effort because of which our country was able to kick start two 'Made in India' vaccination programmes.
- From the start of the immunisation programme, attempts were made to deliver the vaccine quickly and to the remotest parts of the country.
- Yesterday, an important decision was taken regarding the vaccination programme. After May 1, anyone above 18 years could take the Covid-19 vaccination dose.
- I request the state governments that they should gain the trust of labourers. The state governments should request them to stay where they are and not leave.
- While we're trying to save as many lives as possible, we're also trying to ensure economic activities remain smooth as well.
- The urban workforce will now benefit from the vaccination as well. We will also provide vaccination swiftly to the workers.
- I request the young men and women to form small committees in their localities to ensure Covid-19 guidelines are followed. This would help the government from imposing lockdowns or curfews.
- I urge the States to consider lockdowns only as the last option and focus creating on micro containment zones.
