​​'New sense of normalcy, communal harmony returns in Srinagar', PM Modi greets Jammu and Kashmir​

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Srinagar on Thursday, September 19, following a 59 percent voter turnout in the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. The rally aimed to gather support for BJP candidates in the Valley, where the party has never secured a seat.

The event took place at Sher-e-Kashmir Park in Srinagar and attracted approximately 30,000 BJP supporters. Heightened security measures were implemented across Kashmir, including enhanced patrols and several new checkpoints.

This rally follows the BJP's success in the District Development Council elections, where three of its candidates won in Srinagar, Pulwama, and Kupwara districts. This has raised the party's hopes of better performance in the assembly elections.

On September 18, the first phase of the assembly elections recorded the highest voter turnout in the past seven elections at about 59 percent. Over 2.3 million voters participated to decide the fate of 219 candidates.

Kishtwar district saw the highest voter turnout at 77 percent, while Pulwama district recorded the lowest at 46 percent.

PM Modi in his speech said "The situation has changed dramatically." This shift indicates that communities are coming together to celebrate important festivals. Both Eid and Diwali celebrations are bringing a lively atmosphere to the area.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the significant contribution of Kashmiri Pandits to Kashmiriyat and the region's heritage. He attributed the displacement of Kashmiri Hindus to the "self-serving politics of three prominent dynasties," referring to the National Conference, PDP, and Congress, in Kashmir. The Prime Minister highlighted the deep-rooted connection between the Pandit community and the region's cultural legacy.

Markets in Srinagar, including Lal Chowk, are witnessing vibrant celebrations of both Eid and Diwali. In recent times, these events have marked a new sense of normalcy and communal harmony in the region, said PM Modi.
