NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited Dehradun to review the devastation caused by floods, cloudbursts, and landslides across Uttarakhand. Chairing a high-level meeting, he announced financial assistance of Rs 1,200 crore for relief and rehabilitation in the state.
The Prime Minister also declared an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 for the injured. Children orphaned by the calamity will receive long-term care under the PM CARES for Children scheme.
PM Modi met families affected by the floods and landslides, offering condolences and assuring them of full government support. “The Union Government will stand shoulder to shoulder with Uttarakhand in this difficult time,” he said.
The aid package includes reconstruction of damaged houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin, restoration of highways, rebuilding of schools, livestock support through mini-kits, and additional relief from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
Acknowledging the ongoing efforts of rescue teams, PM Modi praised the NDRF, SDRF, Army, and Aapda Mitra volunteers for their swift response. He stressed the need for a “multi-dimensional approach” to recovery, combining immediate relief with long-term rebuilding.
Inter-ministerial central teams are already assessing the damage, with further aid to be considered once detailed reports are submitted. The Centre, PM Modi assured, will work closely with the state government to restore normalcy and rebuild infrastructure in the affected regions.
