NEW DELHI: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday announced that she will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Anantnag seat.

The party will not field nominees from Udhampur and Jammu Lok Sabha constituencies in order to ensure that "secular vote is not divided", the PDP said.

Aga Mohsin will be the party's candidate from Srinagar for the Lok Sabha polls.

The PDP said that it will field its candidates from Srinagar, Anantnag and

Baramulla

constituencies but had not decided yet about Ladakh constituency.

The announcement comes days after National Conference and Congress announced a poll alliance under which the former party will not field its candidates from Jammu and Udhampur seats.

Six Lok Sabha seats of Jammu and Kashmir will go to polls in five phases starting April 11.

Baramulla and Jammu constituencies will go to polls in the first phase while Srinagar and Udhampur constituencies will go to polls in the second phase.

Anantnag constituency will go to polls in third, fourth and fifth phases given the precarious security situation in the south Kashmir region. And Ladakh constituency will go to polls in the fifth phase.
