Ten of the thirteen akharas have started settling into their camps at Sector 20 of the Maha Kumbh mela, marking the formal beginning of this grand spiritual gathering, which draws millions of devotees from across the world.

​Nine more Akharas to arrive soon​

A Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhara devotee performs fire breathing stunts in a procession. This akhara took out its Chhavani Pravesh on January 2. The procession was full of Vedic mantra chanting, conch shell sounds, damru beats, and devotional Hindi bhajans played by bands and DJs along the route to the mela grounds.

Held once every twelve years, the Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the largest and most significant Hindu festivals. In 2025, it will take place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26.
