WAGAH (AMRITSAR): A Pakistani youth, Mohammad Ilyas, who crossed over to Indian territory without his passport and visa, was on Monday, handed over to his country's authorities after being found innocent. According to BSF officials, the 18-year-old Ilyas entered the Indian territory near the main international gate here last night. But he was apprehended immediately.
On interrogation, it was found that Ilyas was innocent and had crossed over to Indian territory following some arguments with his parents in Dargapor village in Gujranwala district of Pakistan. Ilyas said he had come to India earlier on valid passport and visa and spent a month in Mumbai. However, this time his parents were not keen on sending him to Mumbai again and had hidden his passport, he claimed. Ilyas was carrying two pairs of cloths and Pakistani currency worth Rs 260 at the time of his arrest. In 2005, officials of BSF and Pakistan Rangers had unanimously resolved that if any innocent citizen crossed over to each others territory unknowingly, he or she would be returned forthwith to his or her native county without any condition.
