Margao:
Defence minister Manohar Parrikar
on Monday announced that the much awaited new
Defence Procurement Procedure
(DPP) has been uploaded on to the website of the defence ministry. He made this announcement while speaking at the inaugural session of
DefExpo 2016
at Naqueri-Quitol, Goa.
The new DPP,
Parrikar
said, “can push the agenda of Make In India scheme” and help creating “defence industry network for its own needs and exports.”
Stating that several concerns of foreign countries regarding procurement of defence equipments and technologies have been addressed in the new DPP, Parrikar said that due emphasis has been laid on ensuring transparency, faster procurement and encouraging local industry in the new policy. “Many of the licensing needs have been dispensed with (in the new DPP) and export clearances are virtually online,” he said.
Parrikar said further that the government, besides being “proactive” in Make in India scheme was also pushing for the Start up India initiative launched by the Narendra Modi government.
1055 defence related companies and 224 delegates from 48 countries are participating in the DefExpo 2016.
