Murder-accused Punjab criminal arrested in Delhi

The special cell of Delhi Police has arrested a criminal of Punjab, who heads a gang of snatchers in the state and was also involved in the murder of a police officer there.

NEW DELHI: The special cell of Delhi Police has arrested a criminal of Punjab, who heads a gang of snatchers in the state and was also involved in the murder of a police officer there. Punjab police were desperately looking for the accused, after announcing a reward of Rs 50,000 on him.
A team of inspectors Umesh Barthwal and Neeraj Kumar have arrested Karandeep Singh Saluja alias Monty (28) from Tilak Nagar on Saturday.

He is wanted in a case of sensational daylight murder of assistant sub-inspector of Punjab Police, Gurdial Singh, then posted as incharge, police post, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Ludhiana.
The incident had taken place in 2011 in an area under Sarabha Nagar police station there when a police team led by ASI Gurdial Singh, deployed to counter snatching incidents during morning time, was on patrol. During patrolling, they stopped two suspicious persons on a bike. When Gurdial alighted from the car to check the motorcyclist, the pillion rider opened fire, hitting Gurdial on shoulder and head.
Karandeep Singh studied up to 8th class in Ludhiana. In 1998, his family left Ludhiana and shifted to Kanpur, UP, as his father suffered losses in his lottery business. In 2007, Karandeep came to Delhi and lived with his elder brother Harmeet Singh at Jeevan Park, Uttam Nagar. "He worked in a private company as a bill collection agent for six months. Thereafter, he worked in an ice cream parlour. He was currently working as cashier in a restaurant in Tilak Nagar," said DCP, special cell, Sanjeev Yadav.
Karandeep, alongwith his friend Goldy of Ludhiana, used to indulge in chain snatchings to earn easy money, he added.
