Ashok Chavan

Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Ashok Chavan, former chief minister of Maharashtra, tendered his resignation from the Congress party. Allegedly discontented with the party, he subsequently affiliated himself with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Milind Deora

In January, on the same day when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi initiated his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Milind Deora, who was once closely associated with him, resigned from the party. Subsequently, he joined the faction led by Eknath Shinde in the Shiv Sena.

Baba Siddique

In February, Baba Siddique, former Maharashtra minister, stepped down from the Congress party. Shortly after, on February 10, he became a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) under the leadership of Ajit Pawar.

Ghulam Nabi Azad

On August 26, 2022, Ghulam Nabi Azad, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and a seasoned politician, resigned from all roles, including his primary membership with the Congress party. Subsequently, on September 26, Azad declared the formation of his own political party named the Democratic Progressive Azad Party.

Kapil Sibal

In May 2022, senior advocate Kapil Sibal tendered his resignation from the Congress party. Later, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha as an independent candidate, receiving support from the Samajwadi Party. Known for handling numerous high-profile cases in the Supreme Court, Sibal is esteemed as one of India's renowned lawyers.

Amarinder Singh

In November 2021, former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh stepped down from the Congress party after a clash with Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu and other party members. Subsequently, he became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

RPN Singh

In January 2022, former Union minister R P N Singh tendered his resignation from the Congress party and subsequently joined the BJP. He expressed his belief that the Congress had undergone significant changes from its previous state.

Jitin Prasada

In June 2021, Prasada was the inaugural member of the Group of 23 Congress leaders to depart from the party, opting to join the BJP. Previously, the G-23 leaders had penned a letter to Sonia Gandhi in 2020, advocating for substantial changes within the organisation.

Jyotiraditya Scindia

In 2020, Scindia departed from the Congress party and aligned himself with the BJP. His departure, alongside 22 MLAs, led to the downfall of the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh and facilitated Shivraj Singh Chouhan's appointment as Chief Minister.

In February 2022, former law minister Ashwani Kumar resigned from the Congress, bringing an end to his 46-year-long affiliation with the party.
