NEW DELHI: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son
Rakesh Siddaramaiah , who was undergoing treatment in the Belgian capital, passed away on Saturday due to multiple-organ failure.
He was undergoing treatment for acute pancreatitis at Brussel's Antwerp University Hospital. Rakesh was hospitalized after he complained of severe stomach pain in Antwerp. He had recently celebrated his 39th birthday.
CM Siddaramaiah along with his wife Parvathi and younger son Yathindra had flown to Brussels to be with their son.
He had met with an accident 15 years ago, when he suffered injuries to his pancreas.
Soon after his son was hospitalised, Siddaramaiah had spoken to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, seeking her assistance in getting the best treatment for his son in Belgium.
Prominent leaders from various parties condoled Rakesh's death. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and has requested the Indian Ambassador to Belgium to assist Siddaramaiah's family in carrying out the legal formalities in bringing the body back to India.
"My thoughts are with Siddaramaiah ji and his family on the demise of his son. May God give the family strength to bear the irreparable loss," he said in a tweet.
