Kannada actor drives car into couple, kills woman; held

BENGALURU: A 48-year-old woman died and her husband was severely injured after a car driven by Kannada actor Nagabhushana NS allegedly hit them in Bengaluru on Saturday night.

Nagabhushana was charged under various sections, including rash driving and causing death by negligence, after Prema S died and husband Krishna B, 58, was wounded in the crash on Vasanthapura Main Road. The actor was arrested but got bail from the police station.

Police said Nagabhushana, who is in his late thirties, was “not found drunk” at the time of the crash. But DCP (traffic south) Shiva Prakash Devaraj said the accident occurred because of negligent driving by the actor.

Nagabhushana claimed that the couple “suddenly entered the road from a footpath” and he was “taken aback”. He also said that he rushed the couple with some others to a nearby hospital but Prema could not be saved.

Police filed the case on a complaint by Prema’s son Partha K, a software engineer. Krishna B, his injured father, is an autorickshaw driver.
