NEW DELHI: Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar will be the next Chief Justice of India.

Justice Khehar will be sworn in as the Chief Justice of India by President Pranab Mukherjee on January 4, 2017.

Justice Khehar will be the 44th Chief Justice of India. He would remain in office from January 4, 2017 till August 4, 2017. He will be the first Sikh to become the Chief Justice of India.

on Tuesday wrote to the Union government recommending Justice Khehar's name for appointment as the next Chief Justice of India.

Hope Justice Thakur leaves post haste. He has been a stooge of the CONgress. Hope Justice Kehar will be proactive and reform the Judiciary starting from the basics and focus on ensuring his house is first primed. Some random points I have listed: (a) The scrapping of the opaque collegium system of judicial appointments, (b) the introduction of an Indian Judicial Service on the lines of the Indian Administrative Service to ensure competent quality Judge appointments, (c) streamlining and bringing in some measures of accountability in the legal fraternity, (d) setting up of prestigious Law colleges in the country, (e) opening up the Legal profession to international competition to ensure quality legal standards for the country and (f) measures to improve the probity quotient of the courts.
