ISI infiltrating security forces to target Advani

new delhi: pakistan-sponsored terrorism has assumed a new dimension, with the isi working on a plan to get security forces infiltrated by militants as part of a conspiracy to assassinate political leaders including union home minister l k advani, intelligence sources said here wednesday.
the sources said that a militant, khursheed ahmed ganai, who joined the central reserve police force (crpf) and later deserted it, was killed in an encounter at anantnag towards the end of last year while fighting alongside militants of the lashkar-e-taiba.
another militant, azhar khan, who along with ganai joined the crpf promising to desert terrorism, had been missing from the jammu region since october 18, 2001, and had resumed his militant activities, the sources said.
alarmed over such cases, the home ministry has issued a circular recently asking all militancy-prone areas to be on the watch against such people, the sources said.
they said that according to a wireless intercept, azhar khan, who fled the crpf camp along with a rifle and ammunition issued to him, was active in delhi, uttaranchal, uttar pradesh and jammu and kashmir. khan, along with a band of lashkar militants, was planning to carry out assassination of various political leaders besides causing explosions in delhi, the sources said.
the circular asked the police forces of these states to carry out extra vigil during the electioneering of top political leaders, including advani.
they said the isi had made such penetration into the paramilitary forces as this could enable the militants to undergo an extensive training, besides having the knowledge of rescue acts carried in case of vvips by the security personnel.
another reason for this deliberate penetration could be extensive deployment of crpf in the insurgency-hit state of the country, the sources added.
intelligence agencies have been on alert after some wireless intercepts indicated that the isi had managed to get some militants into the paramilitary forces under the pretext of joining the national mainstream.
however, ever since the killing of ganai in the encounter, security agencies have begun scrutinising every militant before allowing him to join the forces, they said. related stories
pak shuts isi''s afghan unit: report
pak''s military strength deterred india: musharraf
advani''s security beefed up
pakistan is hiding something, says india
