guwahati: the inquiry by assam director general of police (dgp) into the security cover provided to defence minister george fernandes during his recent visit to the state has found several lapses in the arrangement. official sources said dgp h k deka''s report which was submitted to the government on monday said there were "various lapses" when the minister was in transit travelling almost 40 kms through kamrup district on friday without any police escort.
fernandes travelled the distance in a hired car which hit an autorickshaw resulting in minor injury to him. the dgp has, meanwhile, placed under suspension two police officials for dereliction of duty in the matter. the government has also ordered a probe under home commissioner himangshu sekhar das who is expected to file a report before march two next.
