India's global AI challenge: Over 4k entries cut to 70 finalists
NEW DELHI: India on Sunday announced the finalists of three major global AI challenges ahead of AI Impact Summit, highlighting the country’s growing role in shaping responsible and people-focused AI solutions.
According to a statement, over 4,650 applications were received from more than 60 countries for the three challenges — ‘AI for ALL’, ‘AI by HER’, and ‘YUVAi’. After a multi-stage evaluation by experts and industry leaders, 70 teams have been shortlisted to present their innovations at the summit to be held in Delhi from Feb 16 to 20.
The ‘AI for ALL’ challenge attracted over 1,350 entries and focuses on using AI to solve real-world problems in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, education, climate resilience, governance and financial inclusion. The top 20 finalists include solutions for infection screening, soil health analysis, climate risk assessment, digital healthcare and accessible education.
The ‘AI by HER’ challenge, aimed at promoting women-led AI innovation, received more than 800 applications from over 50 countries. Thirty finalists were selected, showcasing AI tools in cancer screening, multilingual healthcare support, precision nutrition, financial inclusion, education and sustainability. The initiative underlines the push for greater participation of women in the global AI ecosystem.
The ‘YUVAi’ global youth challenge saw the highest response, with over 2,500 applications from young innovators aged 13 to 21 across 38 countries. The 20 finalists have developed AI solutions ranging from malaria detection and telemedicine for rural areas to deepfake detection, forest fire alerts and assistive technologies for the visually impaired.
The shortlisted teams will showcase their solutions before policymakers, investors, industry leaders and academics during the summit, where winners will also receive support to scale their ideas nationally and globally. TNN
