NEW DELHI: With the screening ofSatyajit Ray''s legendary celluloid epic and opening of the Indian Pavilion showcasing films from here,the Indian show at the Cannes has finally begun. which won the ''BestHuman Document Award'' in 1956 Cannes Festival, was the opening film in theclassic section at the French Riveira.
The Indian Pavilion was openedyesterday by actress and Cannes juror Nandita Das.
The screening of, the print of which wasrestored by the American Academy of Motion Picture and Art, also saw thepresence of Censor Board Chief Sharmila Tagore, who was one of Ray''s favouriteactresses.
Inaugurating the Pavilion set up by Information andBroadcasting Ministry and CII, Nandita said the Indian Pavilion "is a greatinitiative facilitating the producers and directors to showcase their work at aglobal platform and interact with international fraternity."
Tagorealso released the first anniversary issue of ''Film India Worldwide,'' CII''squarterly film magazine, a release said here today.
Bollywood films,including ''The Rising, and , would bescreened in the commercial section of the Festival, the release saidadded.
