India-Canada News: Amid the ongoing diplomatic row with India over the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a new opinion poll has got more worrying news for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. According to a new Ipsos poll conducted for the Canada-based news platform Global News, Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the opposition Conservative Party, has emerged as the preferred choice for Prime Minister among 40 percent of Canadian citizens. In contrast, PM Justin Trudeau lags behind with only 31 percent support.

In the backdrop of strained India-Canada relationships, Rhonda Lenton, president and vice-chancellor at York University, Canada which has 2000 Indian students, assured that there have been no difficulty for students on her campus. "I am in touch with them regularly. We are an inclusive diverse university. I am confident that we are committed to providing support to our students in India," she said, on the sidelines of a programme in the city on Friday.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh also asserted that the security of thousands of Indian students and professionals studying and working in Canada must be protected at all times.
