​In pics: ​Navy gets three new warships-INS ​Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer at Mumbai’s Naval Dockyard, showcasing India’s growing defence capabilities.

PM Modi emphasised India’s recognition as a reliable partner globally, especially in the Global South, promoting development over expansionism. PM Modi said, "Today, India is recognised as a reliable and responsible partner globally, particularly in the Global South. India operates in the spirit of development, not expansionism, and has always supported an open, secure, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region."

PM Modi highlighted India’s defence exports to over 100 countries and lauded the Navy’s role in saving lives and protecting cargo, bolstering global trust in India’s maritime security. PM said added, "We should become global partners in securing sea from drugs, weapons and terrorism and make it safe and prosperous."

The fourth ship of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer project, INS Surat, is equipped with advanced AI, network-centric systems, and 75% indigenous content.

INS Nilgiri, the first ship of the Project 17A class, is a multi-mission stealth frigate designed for both conventional and non-conventional naval operations.

The sixth Scorpene-class submarine, INS Vaghsheer, excels in stealth features, capable of anti-surface, anti-submarine warfare, and intelligence gathering.

INS Surat, Nilgiri, and Vaghsheer feature 75% indigenous content, with contributions from firms like BEL, L&T, and BHEL, advancing India’s self-reliance.

These vessels showcase advanced features like AI solutions, IPMS, low radiated noise levels, and enhanced weapons, boosting India’s maritime edge.

The induction of these vessels demonstrates India’s commitment to safeguarding the Indo-Pacific region and becoming a global leader in maritime security.
