MEERUT: Days after protests against Kamlesh Tiwari – a Hindu Mahasabha member who allegedly declared Prophet Mohammed as gay – gained momentum, members of Hindu Mahasabha claim that their head office at Mandir Marg in Delhi got a threat call from al-Qaida on Thursday early morning at 12.30am.
Detailing, Munna Kumar Sharma, Hindu Mahasabha, national general secretary, said, "Our office got a threat call on our landline at 12.30am on Thursday.
The caller who claimed to be a member of al-Qaida and speaking from Dubai abused and threatened us that not only will the party office be bombed but also all our members shot to death."
The call, Hindu Mahasabha members say, has come in the backdrop of the alleged comment of Kamlesh Tiwari – a Hindu Mahasabha member from Lucknow – who had allegedly called Prophet Mohammed gay. Tiwari’s remark had come a day after Azam Khan called RSS members homosexuals.
As of now, Tiwari is under arrest and National Security Act (NSA) has been slapped on him. "Hindu Mahasabha has already said that Tiwari’s comments were in his personal capacity and is not an idea that all the Mahasabha members harbor, but still we are being dragged into it. Moreover, we are not scared of a threat call because we know that our party has never made communally sensitive statements," said Sharma.
The members have filed a police complaint in the matter, the investigation of which is underway. It should be noted that last month, the national vice-president of the Hindu outfit got a threat message on his phone. The text message, the location of which the police is still trying to trace, threatened to eliminate all the offices and members of the Hindu outfit in 15 days’ time.
The threat message received on the cellphone of Ashok Sharma, national vice-president, Hindu Mahasabha, read, "I am surprised that our party is getting so many threat calls and messages. As far as Tiwari is concerned, he has nothing to do with our party and people should stop associating us with him."
