From one-on-one with Trump to 'working dinner': Top 10 things to know about PM Modi's schedule today in Washington

2. At 1:20 am IST Modi and Trump are scheduled to have a one-on-one meeting in the

Oval Office

at the White House for 20 minutes. Notably, Trump called Modi a "true friend" in a recent tweet welcoming Modi to the US.

3. "During the meeting, the President and the Prime Minister will discuss ongoing cooperation, including counter-terrorism, defence partnership in the Indo-Pacific region, global cooperation, burden-sharing, trade, law enforcement, and energy," said White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer two days ago.

4. The PM wrote an editorial published Monday in The Wall Street in which he indicated some of the issues he might like to discuss with Trump at their meeting. He said the logic of the Indo-US strategic ties is "incontrovertible" and added that India and the US have an overriding interest in securing the world from terrorism, radical ideologies and non-traditional security threats.

5. After Trump's and Modi's one-on-one meeting, hour-long delegation-level talks - from 1:40 am to 2:40 am - between the two countries are scheduled to take place in the cabinet room of the White House.

6. Whether the contentious H-1B visa issue will come up for discussion during these delegation-level talks is unclear, but a senior Trump administration official told PTI the Americans were ready for it if it does come up.

7. After the delegation-level talks, Modi and Trump are expected to deliver joint statements to the media between 2.40 am and 3 am. While it was communicated earlier that there will be no questions taken from journalists, reports on Monday suggested the two leaders might take a pre-selected question each.

8. Following their media statements, both leaders and their respective delegations will take a break from strictly official confabulations and repair to a cocktail reception hosted by US vice president Mike Pence. This will be a 30-minute affair, from 3 am to 3:30 am, the venue for which is the 'state floor' of the White House.

9. Then it's back to business for what's being termed a "working dinner" at the same venue from 3:30 am to 5:30 am. This "working dinner" is said to be the first of its kind under the current US administration.

10. After this almost four-hour-long session of talks, the official evening will end and the PM and his delegation will head back to their hotel as preparations begin for their onward journey to The Netherlands.
