Union minister Anurag Thakur celebrates Karwa Chauth

Karwa Chauth is observed during the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik, married women observe a Nirjal fast on this day.


The fast starts at dawn with a pre-dawn meal known as Sargi and continues until the moon is sighted. Once the moon appears, their husbands offer them food and water, allowing them to break the fast.

Actor Parineeti Chopra is celebrating the festival in Delhi, where she will be fasting for her husband, politician Raghav Chadha, on Sunday. This marks her second year celebrating Karwa Chauth, following her marriage to Raghav in September 2023.

The word ‘Karwa’ means an earthen pot, and ‘Chauth’ means the fourth. And to put the ‘Karwa’ in perspective, women offer ‘Argya’ to the moon using an earthen pot on the fourth day of Kartik month. Karwa Chauth is thus celebrated on the fourth day of Kartik in the Hindu lunar calendar, and according to the English calendar it falls anywhere between October and November.

Shilpa and Sonam all dolled up for festival

Sonam looked stunning as she opted to break away from the traditional red and pink outfits commonly worn for Karwa Chauth.


In a post on Instagram, Shilpa dropped a video in which ladies including Mira Kapoor, Rima Jain and Antara Marwah can be seen performing Karwa Chauth puja.
