From Kangana to Kirron Kher: Actors who joined politics

Four times National Film Award winner, Kangana Ranaut started her acting career with Mahesh Bhatt's Gangster in 2006. She was recently announced as Lok Sabha candidate by BJP from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi.

Hema Malini, who became popular for her role as 'Basanti' in Ramesh Sippy's Sholay is BJP MP from Mathura. Earlier, she also served as an Rajya Sabha MP, having been nominated by the then President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Sunny Deol, known for his remarkable acting in films like Gadar and Border, currently represents Gurdaspur constituency as a BJP MP. He won by a margin of ​82,459 votes in 2019.

Jaya Bachchan is currently Samajwadi Party's Rajya Sabha MP. Bachchan was first elected in 2004 as the Member of Parliament representing Uttar Pradesh. She began her acting career as a teenager in Satyajit Ray's Mahanagar (1963).

Kirron Kher started her acting career in Punjab film industry. She is currently BJP's MP from Chandigarh constituency. She is the recipient of two National Film Awards and four Filmfare Award nominations.

Amitabh Bachchan, popularly known as Big B or 'Sadi ka mahanayak' contested the Lok Sabha election from Allahabad constituency in 1984 and defeated former UP CM HN Bahuguna. He won by one of the highest victory margins ever in Indian elections after receiving 68.2% votes.

Ravi Kishan is currently BJP'S member of parliament from Gorakhpur constituency. He, in 2019, defeated Samajwadi Party's candidate by a margin of ​3,01,664 votes.

Govinda contestes the 2004 elections on Indian National Congress' ticket and was elected from Mumbai by 50,000 votes. However, he later resigned before completing his term to focus on his acting career.
