Fire in Meerut mall, no casualties

MEERUT: A major fire broke out in a shopping mall in Shastri Nagar locality on Monday but there is no immediate report of casualty, official sources said.
The fire in Vishal Mega Mart has been doused but smoke continued to billow from the building till late Monday evening, they said.
Meerut District Magistrate Mukesh Mishra said its personnel would enter the premises of the mall, which also houses three cinema halls, once the fire is doused and then will start searching if any person is trapped inside.
Fire tenders of the army and those available with Meerut administration as well as those of nearby district authorities were pressed into service, he said.
Personnel of Rapid Action Force (RAF) were also deployed in the area for rescue operations.
A devastating fire had ripped through an electronic goods exhibition here on April 10 killing at least 64 people.
